Joule Mentoring Club

(Joule Club Blog)

Joule is the SI Unit for energy in Physics. At REACH, we are not into Physics but we want to be a group of people that’s full of energy! This energy will result in crossing of limitations, exploring into untapped potential and make a difference in history!

The goals of Joule Mentoring Club are to:

  • To inculcate values like teamwork, goal setting and perservance through sports and outdoor adventure;
  • To encourage youths to be involved in community service;
  • To train youths in leadership skills and knowledge

Joule’s activities:

  • Sports

Through sports, we want to see life skills imparted through experiential learning. We welcome all sports enthusiasts of various levels of training to join us and contribute together back to the community through the sport.

  • Adventure

Our youths will also get to get on adventure trips to trek, cycle and overcome their fears. Our trips will have facilitators attached to the team that will help to enrich the lessons learnt.

  • Community Service

As a club, we will not let the energy of our youths be wasted away. Both locally and overseas, we will organize projects to benefit the underprivileged. These projects will be a life changing experience for all who take part in it.

Our Youth Team

Joe

"I am a youth worker trained in Social Work from NUS. I share my life with the youths in many ways that hopefully will leave behind an impact in their lives. Personally I am also deeply passionate and zealous in outdoor adventure like dragonboating, kayaking, gym and long distance races."

Jaslyn

I graduated from NUS social work in 2008. I enjoy doing simple things like catching up with friends, watching movies and Korean dramas, swimming and playing ball games like Captain’s ball and floorball. Catching a sunrise or sunset, staring far out at the sea also helps me to relax and appreciate life. And of course my other favourite is hanging out with youths! To me, youths are an energetic bunch and there are few dull moments with them. I hope to have a chance to make friends with you, and to share the ups and downs of being a youth. Life is short so carpe diem (seize the day)!

We emerged 2nd place in the Novelty Category finals in the PA Paddle Championship 2009.

"He was first introduced to dragonboat as an outdoor activity with a purpose of greater exposure versus hanging out in the streets! He subsequently grew to like it as it helps to build his physical stature & was further motivated when he participated in competitions. Through the one year I must stress that he has learnt to be more focus & discipline and also understood the importance of teamwork and team contribution." Mdm Gan (a youth's parent)
